“My practicality consists in this, in the knowledge that if you beat your head against the wall it is your head which breaks and not the wall – that is my strength, my only strength.”
– Antonio Gramsci
I was laid off with a newborn, had a suffered a serious rupture in my family life, reeled from the onset of post-traumatic stress disorder, and had no idea what the direction of my life – or this country – was headed.
My name is Alex Buono, and in the most challenging moment of my life, all I wanted was someone to listen.
Turns out, if you go to therapy, they listen. Like a whole lot.
Therapy exposed me to the complex interrelationship between the broader socio-political effects of war and strife, trauma, and addiction on the American family. After identifying and establishing our family’s generational patterns of behavior, we are fostering a healthier emotional environment for Sammy, our toddler (above).
I’ve spent the past ten years of my professional life devoted to film and television production as a camera assistant and digital operations analyst at a cable television network. I wrote, directed, produced and performed in several comedy pet projects in New York City.
These experiences allowed me to bridge the trust I have in my home toward you, my community.
In my family, and in my community, I want to build trust in knowing there is no shame in asking for help.
On this website, you can expect to see stories about deconstructing the institutional and societal labels of people in our community that we read and watch- the addict, the politician, the teacher, the undocumented immigrant, the police officer, the convicted felon; and get inside their stories to understand their point of view and how it reflects upon the broader national political landscape.
If you have a story to tell, I am here to listen, with confidence and integrity.
(Just like I wear my hats)
I’m a firm believer in aligning words with action in my personal and professional lives, and I hope to demonstrate this by explaining my information gathering processes to promote media literacy and transparency.
I am optimistic about the future that lies ahead. Do you want to join me?
